Crítica de Seahaven – «Halo of Hurt»

Seis años llevaba el cuarteto de California sin grabar nada nuevo y regresan con fuerza con un nuevo álbum bajo el brazo. Kyle Soto se decidió a grabarlo tras pasar por su Costa Rica natal y vaya si acertó con su decisión.»Void» tiene varios puntos en común con los Tool más recientes, es un tema tranquilo hasta que revienta con un riff pesado que entra a la primera.

«Moon» tira de lo alternativo, de la mezcla a lo Zappa de distintos pasajes sonoros y de una creatividad increíble. «Dandelion» confirma la habilidad de la banda para crear ambientes distintos. En este caso se elige el medio tiempo para desarrollar una canción instrumental llena de matices interesantes. «I don´t belong here» es otro medio tiempo que ayuda a conocer mejor las intrincadas estructuras sonoras de la banda. No limitarse al más de lo mismo es siempre recomendable.

«Lose» mantiene el nivel eligiendo las melodías y la atmósfera envolvente para convencerte. «Harbor» elige la senda más moderna para mezclar elementos de rock progresivo del bueno y otras pinceladas de este siglo. «Living hell» juega a los cambios de ritmo, a la combinación de armonías y a mantener tu atención. «Bait» confirma la tendencia de la banda al metal progresivo más personal. «Eraser» es un equilibrado compendio de lo arriba descrito.

La banda regresa con un trabajo en el que no importan ni las modas, ni las tendencias, ni absolutamente nada más salvo su indudable interés por seguir desarrollando un estilo propio. No es poco en una época en la que el rock parece estar destinado a cambiar según sople el viento

For six years, the quartet from California had not recorded anything new and they come back strong with a new album under their arms. Kyle Soto decided to record it after passing through his native Costa Rica and he was right with his decision. «Void» has several points in common with the most recent Tool, it is a quiet song until it bursts with a heavy riff that enters the first.

«Moon» draws on the alternative, on a Zappa-like mix of different sound passages and incredible creativity. «Dandelion» confirms the ability of the band to create different environments. In this case, half time is chosen to develop an instrumental song full of interesting nuances. «I don´t belong here» is another halftime that helps to better understand the intricate sound structures of the band. Not limiting yourself to more of the same is always recommended.

«Lose» keeps the level playing by choosing the melodies and the enveloping atmosphere to convince you. «Harbor» chooses the most modern path to mix elements of good progressive rock and other touches of this century. «Living hell» plays to changes of rhythm, to the combination of harmonies and to keep your attention. «Bait» confirms the band’s trend toward more personal progressive metal. «Eraser» is a balanced compendium of the above.

The band returns with a job in which neither fashions nor trends matter, nor absolutely anything else except their undoubted interest in continuing to develop their own style. It is no small thing in an age when rock seems destined to change as the wind blows
