IMPACTANTE Y ENFERMA OBSESIÓN
En algunas ocasiones, y cuando menos lo esperas, llega la “sensación de sorpresa” a plantarte un tortazo de ‘madre mía’ en el careto; solo para que dejes de hacer ‘el gilipollas’ por ahí. Es la percepción de “¡Toma ya!”, acompañada de un tortazo bendito; pero, para bien, no para mal. Eso es lo que me ha sucedido currando en esta reseña.
Entonces: A- si estáis abiertos y abiertas a la sorpresa; B- si os mola el Death/Grind con trazos clásicos y otros nada convencionales; y, C- si también tenéis la valentía de echar un paseo por un horizonte un poco más oscuro de nuestra humanidad, encarnado en las expresiones artísticas del underground francés… no se diga más; la propuesta que os trae Putrid Offal es simplemente una tentación a la que no podéis renunciar. Hacer la escucha de este disco sería una suerte de ejercicio irresistible, para los y las amantes de la vertiente trallera, descarada e inmisericorde; ello, mientras seguimos luchando durante el 2020.
El sello Xenokorp y los ‘Offal’ nos traen su segundo álbum, titulado “Sicknesses Obsessions”; un testimonio más de una historia que data de inicios de los 90’s, cuando la banda vio la luz. En esos tiempos, el Death Metal se afianzaba como una bestia en las cabezas de algunas personas, para pasar luego a convertirse en lo que es hoy; una bestia en plan Kraken que, al cruzarse con varias influencias, ha parido a otras hermosas criaturas. Tal es el caso del Death/Grind y de eso van estos tíos; sin rodeos y sin historias, pura crudeza musical y lírica al unísono. Se trata de un paquete virulento que contiene una expresión integral del enfoque de la banda.
Y como ‘para muestra un botón’, vamos a ver cómo os suenan las siguientes citas del material promocional que Xenokorp nos ha enviado, acerca de la banda y el álbum: “… una banda única en la escena Gore/Death/Grind, que incorpora cantos gregorianos y teclados en su enjambre de virulencia musical e infección auditiva…”; o, “(el disco) es un infierno anatómico que demuestra la versatilidad en el estilo de composición de PUTRID OFFAL, pero que logra mantener una unidad coherente; aunque incorpora elementos inusuales para el género, como voces femeninas o un homenaje tácito a la escena Hard Rock, con guiños a AC / DC o MOTÖRHEAD…” ¿Qué tal eh, cómo lo veis?
Bueno, pues deciros que creí importante destacar esas citas en la presente reseña, con la intención de que os hagáis una idea más puntual de “Sicknesses Obsessions”. Igualmente, creo que ambas citas son totalmente veraces y nos dicen mucho del álbum; podéis echar un vistazo a un mundo muy particular, si os interesa. Yo sinceramente tenía ciertas reservas respecto a esos elementos tan diversos, pero os puedo asegurar que aquello de la “unidad coherente” es así, tal cual.
Hablar de coherencia en este género puede sonar muy paradójico, pero basta con abrir la mente un poco; “Sicknesses Obsessions” contiene una potencia desgarradora, te sobrecoge de inicio a fin (si vuestro decodificador de tralla está en forma, claro); es denso, fuerte, heterogéneo e intenso. Una producción natural, que tiene todo lo mejor de la vieja guardia y todo lo mejor de la producción actual, para destacar la musicalidad de lo que muchos prejuiciosos podrían calificar como “no música”. Iros a tomar por saco, escuchad “Butcher Barber” y seguidamente “Y Shaped” … ¡Joder! la esencia potente y bestial, melodías de serrucho en hueso, vocales enfermas, tralla del carajo, y sí, frescura musical. Los guiños a influencias y elementos poco comunes, sí tienen cabida en un disco de Death/Grind francés. La estridencia y el sonido corrosivo, se juntan en la maestría de Putrid Offal.
Excelente disco, y para cerrar al estilo de los Offal, pues nada… “¡Que se pudra!”
SHOCKING AND SICK OBSESSION
On some occasions, and when you least expect it, the «sensation of surprise» comes to plant a smack of «my mother» on your face; just so you stop doing ‘the asshole’ out there. It is the perception of «Take it now!», Accompanied by a blessed smack; but, for the better, not for the worse. That’s what happened to me working on this review.
So: A- if you are open and open to surprise; B- if you like Death / Grind with classic lines and other unconventional ones; And, C- if you also have the courage to take a walk through a slightly darker horizon of our humanity, embodied in the artistic expressions of the French underground… say no more; The proposal that Putrid Offal brings you is simply a temptation that you cannot give up. Listening to this album would be a kind of irresistible exercise, for lovers of the trallera, shameless and merciless side; this, while we continue to fight during 2020.
The Xenokorp label and the ‘Offal’ bring us their second album, entitled “Sicknesses Obsessions”; one more testimony of a story dating back to the early 90’s, when the band saw the light. In those times, Death Metal took hold like a beast in the heads of some people, to later become what it is today; a beast in the Kraken plan that, when crossed with various influences, has given birth to other beautiful creatures. Such is the case of Death / Grind and that’s what these guys are about; bluntly and without stories, pure musical and lyrical rawness in unison. It is a virulent package that contains a comprehensive expression of the band’s approach.
And as ‘to show a button’, let’s see how the following quotes from the promotional material that Xenokorp has sent us, about the band and the album sound to you: “… a unique band in the Gore / Death / Grind scene, that incorporates Gregorian chants and keyboards in its swarm of musical virulence and auditory infection… ”; or, “(the album) is an anatomical hell that demonstrates the versatility of PUTRID OFFAL’s style of composition, but manages to maintain a coherent unity; although it incorporates unusual elements for the genre, such as female voices or an unspoken tribute to the Hard Rock scene, with nods to AC / DC or MOTÖRHEAD … ”How about eh, how do you see it?
Well, tell you that I thought it important to highlight those quotes in this review, with the intention that you get a more precise idea of »Sicknesses Obsessions». Likewise, I think both quotes are totally true and tell us a lot about the album; you can take a look at a very particular world, if you are interested. I honestly had certain reservations regarding these very diverse elements, but I can assure you that that of the «coherent unity» is like that, as is.
Talking about coherence in this genre may sound very paradoxical, but it is enough to open your mind a little; “Sicknesses Obsessions” contains heartbreaking power, it overwhelms you from start to finish (if your whip decoder is in good shape, of course); it is dense, strong, heterogeneous and intense. A natural production, which has all the best of the old guard and all the best of current production, to highlight the musicality of what many prejudiced people could describe as “not music”. Go drinking, listen to “Butcher Barber” and then “Y Shaped”… Damn! the powerful and bestial essence, bone saw melodies, sick vowels, hell whip, and yes, musical freshness. Nods to unusual influences and elements do have a place on a French Death / Grind album. The stridency and the corrosive sound, come together in the mastery of Putrid Offal.
Excellent album, and to close in the Offal style, well, nothing… «rot!»
