Crítica ANNISOKAY - "Aurora" - Arising Empire

La banda alemana oriunda de Halle (Saale), Saxony-Anhalt, regresan con su quinto álbum denominado «Aurora» y por si fuera poco la banda también estrena nuevo vocalista extremo con Rudi Schwarzer que sustituye a Dave Grunewald. Por lo que el reto tras el éxito de «Arms» (2018) que alcanzó la posición 26 en las listas alemanas, era doble.

Tras escuchar le disco, no podemos más que concluir que Annisokay ha dado una par de vueltas de rosca a su original sonido, al ofrecernos lo que a mi parecer es uno o dos pases adelante en su evolución. Si bien ha ido siguiendo la estela de «Arms» que tanto bien les ha hecho, pero a la vez, también madurando aún más su estilo. Y la aportación de Rudi acompañando a Christoph, le ha dado un buen impulso, a su peculiar estilo.

El disco en general aporta vitalidad y variedad, dos aspectos fundamentales en todo disco y «Aurora» nos permite deleitarnos con un adecuado balance entre la agresividad y la pausa. Vamos el metalcore en su mejor versión. Basta con escuchar el primer corte «Like A Parasite» con el que dieron a conocer lo que estaban tramando hace ya unos meses atrás. Un corte fuerte pero con una diversidad muy interesante, en donde ambos vocalistas nos ofrecen un llamativo duelo de facultades con distintos registros, enriqueciendo con ello el tema de inicio de su nueva obra. Y de paso dándonos una idea de lo heterogéneo del disco.

Con «STFU«, otros de sus sencillo del disco, la banda presentaba oficialmente a Rudi, en un tema violento que apenas daba margen a tomar aire en donde disfrutábamos del metalcore en su estado más visceral. Si algo queda claro en este corte es el buen entendimiento entre los dos cantantes y la estabilidad que Dave aporta a su sonido, conociendo a la perfección en que parte del tema necesita un registro u otro. A pesar de ser un tema fuerte, son evidentes esos detalles que le aportan dinamismo a su estilo.

«The Tragedy» viene a demostrarnos todas su armas en un corte brillante, más pausado pero con una línea vocal muy envolvente y variada, que nos pondrá la piel de gallina, por la manera que han tenido de desarrollarla, todo ello alineado a la perfección en una base rítmica e instrumental arrolladora.

El álbum posee un amplio espectro dentro del estilo que profesa, de allí que su escucha sea agradable y nos permita ir descubriendo distintos matices dentro de su marco creativo, como son por ejemplo «Face The Facts» con un sonido más experimental o «Overload» más comercial, con originales efectos de teclados que le adornan y aportan un brillo muy peculiar. También nos encontramos «The Cocaines Got Your Tongue» en donde la banda nos evoca a la esencia del estilo con una sensación de montaña rusa.

En «Bonfire of the Millenians» la banda nos muestra como realizar un tema fuerte y pausado sin necesidad de aumentar la velocidad o agresividad de sus instrumentos, lo que es a la postre un corte muy interesante de degustar y desgranar con una escucha atenta. Hacia el final del disco nos encontramos otra joya denominada «Standing Still» un corte que da inicio con un intenso piano, que nos acompañara incluso más allá de cuando entren el resto de instrumentos. El tema es sublime, porque sube de intensidad por secciones, mientras Christoph acompaña esas subidas de intensidad con apenas variar su voz limpia, lo que hace que la canción se te clave en los huesos a la primera. De esas canciones que te hiela la sangre y se te quedan en el subconciente. Una de sus tantas obras de arte que encontrarás en «Aurora«. Atentos como el piano acompaña a lo largo del tema, de manera sutil sin apenas variar su sonido, pero que le aporta una línea muy creativa y original al sonido final de la canción.

Si ya en 2018 dieron un golpe en la mesa con «Arms» (2018), en 2021 con «Aurora» literalmente la banda ha tirado la puerta abajo. Creo que estamos siendo testigos de uno de los mejores momentos de la banda, en todas sus facetas y este disco viene a confirmar ese estado de armonía y creatividad en el que se encuentran. El álbum es sumamente entretenido y supera con creces su anterior obra, «Arms» que ya de por si, era y es un gran disco. Esto pone de manifiesto el esfuerzo de estos jóvenes en esta nueva etapa que se les abre. Una banda que no deben perder de vista, no solo para los amantes del metalcore, sino de los amantes de la buena música en general.

The German band originally from Halle (Saale), Saxony-Anhalt, return with their fifth album called «Aurora» and as if that were not enough the band also premiered a new extreme vocalist with Rudi Schwarzer who replaces Dave Grunewald. So the challenge after the success of «Arms» (2018), which reached position 26 on the German charts, was twofold.

After listening to the album, we can only conclude that Annisokay has given a couple of turns of the screw to the original sound of it, offering us what in my opinion is one or two steps forward in his evolution. Although he has been following in the wake of «Arms» that he has done so much good for them, but at the same time, his style has also matured even more. And the contribution of Rudi accompanying Christoph, has given a good boost to his peculiar style.

The album in general brings vitality and variety, two fundamental aspects in every album and «Aurora» allows us to delight ourselves with an adequate balance between aggressiveness and pause. We are metalcore at its best. Just listen to the first cut «Like A Parasite» with which they revealed what they were up to a few months ago. A strong cut but with a very interesting diversity, where both vocalists offer us a striking duel of faculties with different registers, thereby enriching the opening theme of their new work. And by the way giving us an idea of the heterogeneity of the album.

With «STFU«, another of their singles from the album, the band officially presented Rudi, in a violent theme that barely gave room to breathe where we enjoyed metalcore in its most visceral state. If something is clear in this track, it is the good understanding between the two singers and the stability that Dave brings to his sound, knowing perfectly in which part of the song he needs one register or another. Despite being a strong theme, those details that add dynamism to his style are evident.

«The Tragedy» comes to show us all their weapons in a brilliant cut, slower but with a very enveloping and varied vocal line, which will give us goosebumps, because of the way they have had to develop it, all aligned to perfection on an overwhelming rhythmic and instrumental base.

The album has a wide spectrum within the style it professes, hence its listening is pleasant and allows us to discover different nuances within its creative framework, such as «Face The Facts» with a more experimental sound or «Overload» more commercial, with original keyboard effects that adorn it and add a very peculiar shine. We also find «The Cocaines Got Your Tongue» where the band evokes the essence of the style with a roller coaster feel.

In «Bonfire of the Millenians» the band shows us how to perform a strong and slow song without the need to increase the speed or aggressiveness of their instruments, which is ultimately a very interesting cut to taste and reel off with careful listening. Towards the end of the album we find another jewel called «Standing Still» a track that begins with an intense piano, which will accompany us even beyond when the other instruments enter. The song is sublime, because it rises in intensity in sections, while Christoph accompanies those increases in intensity with hardly any variation in his clean voice, which makes the song sink into your bones the first time. Of those songs that freeze your blood and stay in your subconscious. One of his many works of art that you will find in «Aurora«. Attentive as the piano accompanies throughout the song, in a subtle way without hardly changing its sound, but which gives a very creative and original line to the final sound of the song.

If already in 2018 they hit the table with «Arms» (2018), in 2021 with «Aurora» the band has literally knocked the door down. I think we are witnessing one of the best moments of the band, in all its facets and this album confirms that state of harmony and creativity in which they are. The album is extremely entertaining and far surpasses his previous work, «Arms» which in itself was and is a great album. This highlights the effort of these young people in this new stage that is opening up for them. A band that should not be lost sight of, not only for metalcore lovers, but for lovers of good music in general.
