Crítica de Haken – Virus

Una de las bandas más interesantes del metal progresivo británico regresa con un disco que se retrasó por la pandemia. La banda parece tener claro cuáles son sus parámetros sonoros dando un paso más hacia la perfección. Arranca la fiesta con «Prosthetic», un corte enérgico que tiene pasajes sonoros que nos recuerdan a los Anthrax de otra época mezclados con Fear Factory. «Invasion» levanta el pie del acelerador entrando en el terreno del medio tiempo y del rock progresivo más clásico. Excelente corte.

«Carrousel» comienza como un corte de nu-metal al que se le van añadiendo pinceladas de Tool, Genesis y Yes por citar las más importantes. Diez minutos de maestría musical para deleite de los más sibaritas. «The Strain» es una canción que va creciendo a medida que pasan los segundos, es muy complicado hacer una canción así en la que el equilibrio entre los sentimientos y la energía sea tan perfecto. «Canary yellow» es uno de los singles y sorprende por el dominio de ritmos más lentos y por la creación de una atmósfera perfecta.

«Messiah Complex I: Ivory Tower» tira más por el camino del metal más actual dejando grandes momentos. «Messiah Complex II: A Glutton for Punishment» es un tema más acelerado que el anterior y te lleva, de cabeza, a una espiral sonora de la que resulta complicado salir indemne. «Mary Gold», «The Sect» y «Ectobius Rex» completan las dos canciones anteriores desarrollando una idea hasta el límite. Hubiéramos preferido que hicieran un tema largo en lugar de dividirlo en partes. «Only stars» cierra el disco de forma tranquila.

El trabajo es inconmensurable y les permite confirmar que estamos, ya sin duda alguna, ante una de las realidades más interesantes del metal progresivo británico.Que sea por muchos años.

One of the most interesting bands in British progressive metal returns with an album that was delayed by the pandemic. «Messiah Complex I: Ivory Tower» pulls further down the path of the latest metal leaving great moments. «Messiah Complex II: A Glutton for Punishment» is a more accelerated song than the previous one and it takes you, headlong, into a sound spiral from which it is difficult to escape unscathed. «Mary Gold», «The Sect» and «Ectobius Rex» complete the previous two songs developing an idea to the limit. We would have preferred them to do a long theme instead of dividing it into parts. «Only stars» closes the album quietly.

The work is immeasurable and allows them to confirm that we are, without a doubt, before one of the most interesting realities of British progressive metal, that it be for many years.
