VOCES QUE HABLAN FUERTE Y CLARO

(English Below) De nuevo tenemos una muestra de metal estadounidense para reseñar, así como en otras ocasiones; las voces de la ruina nos llegan esta vez desde el estado de las estrellas, los estudios de cine y el interminable litoral pacífico.

Este quinteto estadounidense se conformó como Voices of Ruin en 2008, cuentan con dos producciones independientes previas y un perfil alto en la escena local. Precedentemente, la banda era conocida como Oblivion, la cual produjo solamente un demo de 4 temas; cambiaron su nombre y hubo cambios de alineación en el camino, pero actualmente continúan 2 miembros de la antigua banda en sus filas (Dave – Voz, y Tom – Guitarras).

Ahora, bajo las alas de M-Theory Audio (el sello estadounidense especializado en Death, Trash y Doom); han lanzado el pasado abril, una producción con el sello particular de la casa. La vena a la que alude la crítica internacional para con esta banda californiana, no hace más que manifestarse fuerte y claro en cada tema de “Path to Immortality”. Los Voices of Ruin, han visto su prospecto crecer en su natal Estados Unidos y están llenos de bríos por llevar su voz a todo el globo; una vez el puñetero mundo sea reseteado y arranque de nuevo, claro.

Creo que una característica trascendental de “Path to Immortality” son sus melodías envolventes y muy bien logradas. El álbum te lleva desde las tendencias actuales del Death Melódico, hasta trazos e influencias más clásicas. Podéis haceros a la idea de que la banda nos presenta su propuesta a manera de un camino que te lleva desde el presente al pasado, en un continuum que se reinicia, sigue su marcha, pero luego retorna y va de nuevo.

Sin lugar a dudas, eso puede sonar algo confuso, pero no os dejéis liar; esta banda imprime su sello de esa manera, pero currando una composición que sí tiene cuerpo e identidad. Su voz es muy particular (apegada y desapegada a lo convencionalmente ubicable en el género); así como también su música. Por ello, el disco no decepciona ni se vuelve trillado, al contrario, nos muestra una estirpe fuerte, con presencia y características muy propias del Death Melódico. Por momentos, crees estar escuchando alguna banda de la cuna sueca, pero no chicos y chicas, recuerden que es una banda norteamericana.

Algún fanático quisquilloso puede echar de manos algo de tralla, pero recordad que se trata de un viaje por 10 temas que están contundentemente compuestos y bien arreglados; y sí, también podéis encontrar tralla en “Path to Immortality”, pero la identidad de esta producción va más allá, y apunta a explorar la contundencia de las melodías, combinadas con algo de melancolía y mucho peso.

El décimo tema es un cover que no os imagináis, os invito a descubrirlo, solo deciros que es un rastro de su versatilidad y creatividad. Se trata de una versión de un tema de una prominente banda de rock, también estadounidense; pero, convertido a Death Melódico.

Desde una visión muy personal, diría que esa versatilidad integral es otro punto fuerte de este álbum. Como mencioné, no estamos frente a una disertación de metal extremo, si buscáis eso (que a mí también me mola), quizás no lo hallareis acá; sin embargo, si vuestras apetencias dejan espacio para caminos alternos dentro del género, Voices of Ruin podrían sorprenderos muy gratamente.

VOICES THAT SPEAK LOUD AND CLEAR

Again we have a sample of American metal to review, as well as on other occasions; the voices of ruin come to us this time from the state of the stars, the film studios and the endless peaceful coastline.

This American quintet was formed as Voices of Ruin in 2008, they have two previous independent productions and a high profile on the local scene. Previously, the band was known as Oblivion, which produced only a 4 song demo; They changed their name and there were lineup changes along the way, but currently 2 members of the old band continue in their ranks (Dave – Voice, and Tom – Guitars).

Now, under the wings of M-Theory Audio (the American label specialized in Death, Trash and Doom); They have launched last April, a production with the private label of the house. The vein alluded to by international critics towards this Californian band does nothing but manifest itself loud and clear on each track of “Path to Immortality”. The Voices of Ruin have seen their prospect grow in their native United States and are eager to bring their voice across the globe; once the bloody world is reset and starts again, of course.

I think a transcendental feature of «Path to Immortality» is its immersive and very well done melodies. The album takes you from current trends in Death Melodic, to more classic lines and influences. You can get used to the idea that the band presents its proposal to us as a path that takes you from the present to the past, in a continuum that restarts, continues its march, but then returns and goes again.

Undoubtedly, that may sound a bit confusing, but don’t get bogged down; This band prints its seal in that way, but working on a composition that does have body and identity. His voice is very particular (attached and detached to what is conventionally located in the genre); as well as their music. For this reason, the album does not disappoint or become trite, on the contrary, it shows us a strong lineage, with a presence and characteristics very typical of the Melodic Death. At times, you think you are listening to a band from the Swedish crib, but not boys and girls, remember that it is an American band.

Some fussy fanatic can throw some bullshit, but remember that it is a journey through 10 songs that are forcefully composed and well arranged; and yes, you can also find star in “Path to Immortality”, but the identity of this production goes further, and aims to explore the forcefulness of the melodies, combined with some melancholy and a lot of weight.

The tenth song is a cover that you cannot imagine, I invite you to discover it, just to tell you that it is a trace of its versatility and creativity. It is a version of a song by a prominent rock band, also American; but, converted to Melodic Death.

From a very personal perspective, I would say that this comprehensive versatility is another strong point of this album. As I mentioned, we are not facing an extreme metal dissertation, if you are looking for that (which also rocks me), perhaps you will not find it here; however, if your appetites leave room for alternate paths within the genre, Voices of Ruin might very pleasantly surprise you.
