NADA DESPRECIABLE…
Tener la grata oportunidad de poder currar en estas reseñas es una experiencia única. Te permite aproximarte a la música que amas de maneras muy particulares, y adentrarte en ella desde un punto de vista diferente. La clave posiblemente es apegarte a criterios objetivos, pero en mi estilo también opto por ser respetuoso de los esfuerzos de las bandas, ir con mente abierta, poner atención al detalle y escribir con empatía. Es un mundo complejo para todos, música incluída, y aquello de los ‘rockstars’ opulentos es cada vez más y más raro, mucho más en el metal extremo.
Y bueno, pues hablando de ser objetivos; debo deciros que es realmente un honor reseñar “Despicable”, el nuevo EP de los legendarios ingleses de la tierra Beatle (¡Liverpool, ostia!); nada más y nada menos que Carcass. Desconozco su nivel de vida, pero para mí estos tíos son estrellas del rock, aunque no del tipo opulento claro. Hablar de Carcass, es hablar de una banda pionera en varios sub géneros, a la vez; y eso se dice fácil, pero no creo que lo sea en lo absoluto. Ya es complejo hacer algo en la música, y ahora hacerlo 3 o 4 veces, con un hiato de 10 años en medio, para volver al ruedo llenos de hate; idas y vueltas, con regreso oficial en 2007 (ahora bajo el cobijo del inexorable Nuclear Blast); vaya tela con los Carcass.
Con todo el ánimo de mantenerme siendo objetivo, os diría que sentarnos a hablar de Carcass es hablar de Grind, Death Grind, Death, Melodic Death, Death n’ Roll, y de vuelta al Melodic Death nuevamente. Es una pasada, se mantienen en boga después de esa multifacética travesía, y “Despicable”, es justamente un testimonio nada despreciable de su viaje, de las dimensiones distintas que ha tenido la música de la banda a lo largo de su historia; o al menos, eso me parece a mí. Sin dudas, es una larguísima e interesante historia que ha forjado lo que son hoy.
El EP está compuesto de 4 temas, llenos de la esencia de la leyenda; os juro que me suenan a las diversas eras de la banda. Todos los temas tienen un sonido actual, una composición fresca, con curros de cuerdas siempre potentes, entregando melodías corrosivas y profundas; vamos, el sello inconfundible de Carcass. Creo también que la faena de Wilding en la batería y de Draper, compañero de armas de Steer en las guitarras; es igualmente fenomenal. A mi parecer, la banda ha encontrado un balance ciertamente significativo que mantiene su identidad palpitando fuerte. Ya no son los 90’s, hay cuarenta mil trillones de bandas ahí fuera, pero la pandilla de los Walker-Steer sigue pateando sin cesar. La última vez que logré verles en vivo, fue una PA.SA.DA, sin palabras; por lo cual, saber que este EP ha visto la luz, simplemente me recuerda que los Carcass están vivos y coleando; pandemias y ostias aparte, aquí están.
De la misma manera, escuchar estos temas me remite directamente a pensar en un nuevo álbum; ya ha llovido un poco desde “Surgical Steel” (último LP, de 2013), y sí, existen Singles, Splits, Boxed Sets, e incluso otro EP previos; para quienes nos mola el cuarteto Death Metal pionero de Liverpool, como que ya viene siendo hora de una nueva entrega ¿no?
Y pues nada, si por la víspera se saca el día, los horizontes deparan un futuro álbum potente, corrosivo, cañero, con dosis de tralla y con melodías épicas, pero igualmente inmisericordes; todo mezclado en un coctel molotov que vendrá a continuar engalanando la marcha de estos cracks legendarios del Metal mundial.
Por ahora, tenemos un muy buen escape la ansiedad que puede generar la espera con “Despicable”; pienso que no os defraudará en lo absoluto. Es un EP cargado de la esencia probatoria de la personalidad de la banda, de lo que han sido a lo largo de su brillante carrera, y de lo que continúan siendo hoy… ¡Viva Carcass ostia!
NOTHING DESPICABLE…
Having the pleasant opportunity to work on these reviews is a unique experience. It allows you to approach the music you love in very particular ways, and enter it from a different point of view. The key is possibly to stick to objective criteria, but in my style I also choose to be respectful of bands’ efforts, be open-minded, pay attention to detail, and write with empathy. It’s a complex world for everyone, music included, and that of the opulent ‘rockstars’ is getting rarer and rarer, much more so in extreme metal.
And well, speaking of being objective; I must tell you that it is really an honor to review “Despicable”, the new EP by the legendary English people from the land of Beatle (Liverpool, ostia!); nothing more and nothing less than Carcass. I don’t know their standard of living, but to me these guys are rock stars, although not the opulent type of course. Talking about Carcass is talking about a pioneering band in several sub-genres, at the same time; And that is easy to say, but I don’t think it is at all. It is already complex to do something in music, and now to do it 3 or 4 times, with a 10-year hiatus in between, to return to the ring full of hate; comings and goings, with an official return in 2007 (now under the shelter of the inexorable Nuclear Blast); what a fabric with the Carcass.
In the spirit of staying objective, I would tell you that sitting down to talk about Carcass is talking about Grind, Death Grind, Death, Melodic Death, Death n ‘Roll, and back to Melodic Death again. It’s amazing, they remain in vogue after that multifaceted journey, and “Despicable” is precisely a not inconsiderable testimony of their journey, of the different dimensions that the band’s music has had throughout its history; or at least, it seems to me. Without a doubt, it is a very long and interesting story that has forged what they are today.
The EP is composed of 4 songs, full of the essence of the legend; I swear they sound like the various eras of the band to me. All the songs have a current sound, a fresh composition, with always powerful string gigs, delivering corrosive and deep melodies; come on, the unmistakable hallmark of Carcass. I also think that Wilding’s work on drums and Draper, Steer’s comrade in arms on guitars; it is equally phenomenal. In my opinion, the band has found a certainly significant balance that keeps their identity throbbing strong. It’s not the 90’s anymore, there are 40 trillion gangs out there, but the Walker-Steer gang keeps kicking in and out. The last time I got to see them live, it was a PA.SA.DA, without words; therefore, knowing that this EP has seen the light, simply reminds me that the Carcass are alive and well; pandemics and ostia aside, here they are.
In the same way, listening to these songs refers me directly to thinking about a new album; It has already rained a bit since “Surgical Steel” (last LP, 2013), and yes, there are Singles, Splits, Boxed Sets, and even other previous EPs; For those of us who love the pioneering Death Metal quartet from Liverpool, as it is already time for a new installment, right?
And then nothing, if the day before is taken out, the horizons hold a future album that is powerful, corrosive, hard-hitting, with a dose of whiplash and epic melodies, but equally merciless; all mixed in a Molotov cocktail that will continue to adorn the march of these legendary cracks of world Metal.
For now, we have a very good escape from the anxiety that waiting with «Despicable» can generate; I think it will not disappoint you at all. It is an EP loaded with the probative essence of the band’s personality, what they have been throughout their brilliant career, and what they continue to be today… Viva Carcass ostia!
