EL DÍA DEL JUICIO FINAL, EN AUSTRALIA…
Desde Oceanía, y en medio de este verano un poco extraño, nos llega un EP de Death Metal Melódico. Una joven banda australiana nos invita a “The Day of Reckoning” (“El Día del Juicio Final”).
Los Mr. Kill portan consigo el estandarte de la ciudad de Melbourne. La banda vio la luz en 2017, cuentan con un Demo de 2019 y, en este tormentoso 2020, se da el lanzamiento del presente EP; mismo que ocupa nuestra reseña. La producción llega bajo el amparo del sello Black-Roos Entertainment y está compuesta de 6 temas en total, aunque la pista 1 y la 6 son, respectivamente, un ‘Intro’ y un ‘Outro’.
La propuesta del cuarteto trae consigo rasgos muy interesantes, combina algunas influencias más contemporáneas, pero orientadas a una ‘vehemencia melódica’ que emana naturalmente en todos los temas. Diría que esa esencia que aportan las cuerdas es la predominante, misma que a su vez es complementada por una voz briosa y una percusión igualmente potente. Creo que “The Day of Reckoning” da cuenta del potencial que tiene la banda; y también, nos dice que hay tela por cortar con lo que tienen para ofrecer y explorar. De eso se trata el espíritu de la composición musical, buscar caminos e identidad para crecer y evolucionar; y, en definitiva, ir descubriendo parajes para disfrutar del viaje.
El EP tiene una producción refinada y la misma permite apreciar el estilo de composición de la banda, uno muy centrado en explotar la dimensión melódica, más que la del Death Metal per se. Sin embargo, escuchamos un balance bien logrado dentro de lo que ofrece el género. Sí os debo decir que personalmente, eché de menos algo más de tralla y/o Kaña; pero bueno, sabemos que existen diferentes estilos de acercamiento a los géneros y el Death Metal Melódico es un subgénero particularmente diverso, ya que existen enfoques diversos dentro de lo que él mismo ofrece. Entonces, en el caso de Mr. Kill, diría que existe un consenso interno en darle un espacio central a la melodía.
La estructura musical asoma ser más directa y para nada intrincada, los tíos se ocupan principalmente de crear un ambiente más sólido que de recargar con tralla, o de no dejar espacio para respirar un poco en cada tema.
Siendo así, y entendiendo que la música ofrece dimensiones alternas, más que una etiqueta; creo que “The Day of Reckoning” da testimonio de los recursos musicales y del talento que ostenta Mr. Kill. No esperéis una aproximación trepidante o frenética, se trata más bien de arreglos orientados a explotar la musicalidad, que creo es la apuesta que hace la banda. De esta manera deciros que, si os mola la potencia rítmica y las melodías curradas, este EP os llenará significativamente.

THE DAY OF THE FINAL JUDGMENT, IN AUSTRALIA …
From Oceania, and in the middle of this somewhat strange summer, we get a Melodic Death Metal EP. A young Australian band invites us to “The Day of Reckoning” (“Judgment Day”).
The Mr. Kills carry the banner of the city of Melbourne. The band saw the light in 2017, they have a 2019 Demo and, in this stormy 2020, the present EP is released; same as our review. The production comes under the aegis of the Black-Roos Entertainment label and is composed of 6 songs in total, although tracks 1 and 6 are, respectively, an ‘Intro’ and an ‘Outro’.
The quartet’s proposal brings with it very interesting features, it combines some more contemporary influences, but oriented towards a ‘melodic vehemence’ that emanates naturally in all the songs. I would say that the essence that the strings provide is the predominant one, which in turn is complemented by a spirited voice and an equally powerful percussion. I think «The Day of Reckoning» realizes the potential that the band has; and also, it tells us that there is cloth to cut with what they have to offer and explore. That is what the spirit of musical composition is about, looking for ways and identity to grow and evolve; and, ultimately, discovering places to enjoy the trip.
The EP has a refined production and it allows us to appreciate the style of composition of the band, one very focused on exploiting the melodic dimension, more than that of Death Metal per se. However, we hear a well-struck balance within what the genre offers. Yes, I must tell you that personally, I missed something more of whiplash and / or Kaña; but hey, we know that there are different styles of approach to genres and Melodic Death Metal is a particularly diverse subgenre, since there are different approaches within what it offers. So, in the case of Mr. Kill, I would say that there is an internal consensus in giving a central space to the melody.
The musical structure appears to be more direct and not at all intricate, the guys are mainly concerned with creating a more solid environment than recharging with a whip, or not leaving room to breathe a little in each song.
This being the case, and understanding that music offers alternate dimensions, more than a label; I think “The Day of Reckoning” testifies to the musical resources and talent that Mr. Kill boasts. Don’t expect a hectic or frenetic approach, it is more about arrangements aimed at exploiting musicality, which I think is the band’s bet. In this way I can tell you that, if you like rhythmic power and curried melodies, this EP will fill you significantly.
