Crítica de Long Distance Calling – «How do we want to live»

Séptimo disco de esta banda de rock instrumental que es, por derecho propio, una de las más destacadas del mercado alemán. En este trabajo anuncian que le conceden mayor protagonismo a las bases electrónicas para crear ambientes diversos. Cuando hablamos de electrónica nos referimos al uso de sintetizadores y cajas de ritmos que tienen un sonido muy de los 80 y 90 del pasado siglo.

En cortes como «Inmunity» confirman su capacidad para hacer cortes rápidos tangentes con el rock progresivo. «Ashes» incluye una introducción hablada para luego estirar, como nadie, una base de batería electrónica sobre la que se van añadiendo elementos que recuerdan, bastante, a Rush o a Genesis. La parte final es gloriosa consiguiendo así conquistarte con enorme facilidad.

«Voices» arranca casi como «New York Groove» de Ace Frehley, aunque luego todo cambia para cederle el espacio necesario a los sintetizadores. Las partes más guitarreras recuerdan ligeramente a Mark Knopfler sobre una base emocionante que nos ha sorprendido muchísimo. «True/Negative» también tiene una parte hablada en su introducción, justo después llega el rock mecánico, los toques industriales y la generación de sensaciones solo con la música.

«Curiosity» consta de dos partes siendo la primera en la que se apuntan las líneas maestras de lo que se desarrolla en la segunda. Tocan ligeramente el rock duro y mantienen un buen gusto inédito en muchas de las bandas actuales. «Hazard» tiene una batería que parece sacada de cualquier banda de los años 80, la línea de bajo, ese sonido de guitarra casi artesanal, la parte lenta con la voz y el gran final son factores que nos hacen pensar que estamos ante uno de los cortes más completos del disco.

«Sharing thoughts» son 7:35 minutos de evolución sonora continuada. Tras la parte inicial, se juega con las bases a la antigua usanza desarrollando melodías paralelas que se entrecruzan con soltura. Una obra maestra. «Beyond your limits» es un corte cantado que, por cierto, nos encanta. Las referencias de Genesis están más que presentes. Lo que no nos esperábamos es una parte final que entroncase con un rock progresivo más acelerado que el resto de canciones. Es otro de los grandes temas del disco.

Recomendamos este trabajo a los amantes del rock progresivo sin etiquetas y a los que están cansados de bandas cortadas por el mismo patrón. Por suerte, en Munster existe una máquina del tiempo instalada en el local de ensayo de una banda que deberías conocer cuanto antes para descubrir por qué el cambio de prisma te puede enseñar otras formas de hacer rock que te sorprenderán.

Seventh album by this instrumental rock band that is, in its own right, one of the most outstanding on the German market. In this work they announce that they give greater prominence to electronic bases to create diverse environments. When we talk about electronics, we are referring to the use of synthesizers and drum machines that have a very 80’s and 90’s sound from the last century.

In tracks like «Immunity» they confirm his ability to make fast tangent cuts with progressive rock. «Ashes» includes a spoken introduction to later stretch, like no one else, an electronic drum base on which elements are added that are reminiscent, quite a bit, of Rush or Genesis. The final part is glorious, managing to conquer you with enormous ease.

«Voices» starts almost like Ace Frehley’s «New York Groove», although then everything changes to give the necessary space to the synthesizers. The more guitar parts are slightly reminiscent of Mark Knopfler on an exciting basis that has really surprised us. «True / Negative» also has a spoken part in its introduction, just after comes mechanical rock, industrial touches and the generation of sensations only with music.

«Curiosity» consists of two parts, the first one in which the main lines of what is developed in the second are pointed out. They play hard rock lightly and maintain an unprecedented good taste in many of today’s bands. «Hazard» has a battery that seems to be taken from any band from the 80s, the bass line, that almost handmade guitar sound, the slow part with the voice and the grand finale are factors that make us think that we are dealing with one of the most complete cuts on the album.

«Sharing thoughts» are 7:35 minutes of continuous sound evolution. After the initial part, the bases are played in the old-fashioned way, developing parallel melodies that freely intersect. A masterpiece. «Beyond your limits» is a sung cut that, by the way, we love. Genesis references are more than present. What we did not expect is a final part that connects with progressive rock faster than the rest of the songs. It is another of the great songs on the album.

We recommend this work to lovers of progressive rock without labels and to those who are tired of bands cut by the same pattern. Luckily, in Munster there is a time machine installed in the rehearsal room of a band that you should know as soon as possible to discover why the change of prism can teach you other ways of doing rock that will surprise you.
